“Extraordinary Slide Guitar with a GREAT rhythm section! Bass and Drums to die for! The more I listen the more I Love this album. Over all song to song  it is very consistent. If you like slide Guitar you will love this album. Ron Sings and plays from his heart, you can feel his emotion with each note!”

Album features classic Mississippi Delta Blues featuring Ron’s aggressive, raw and dirty slide guitar solos and a fantastic rhythm section!  On this album you have Artis Joyce on bass and Shad Harris on drums. I’d love to have these guys backing me! They are very in tune with each other and they are tight! Fantastic grooves!  My top 3 songs on the album are “I Do Not Dance With Short Girls”, “Mambo for Albert”, and “Diddley Widdley”.  The "live" 6 minute improvisational “Diddley Widdley" is my favorite with Artis showing us some great skills on bass with his solo. All the songs on this Album are great, and they're all a showcase for Hacker's Fantastic slide playing! No wonder Ron was asked to play on Tom Waits Album “Orphan”!
I really enjoyed the album.
The overall average of the songs on this album was pretty consistently good which made the album score high! This would be a good album to buy and add to your collection. Enjoyable Raw and Dirty!

Formed early 2009, Tip of the Top is one of the hottest new Bay Area Blues bands to hit the scene. Tip of the Top is a band from the San Jose area. Bringing together two veteran musicians, "Little" Jonny Lawton (guitar and vocals) and Frank De Rose (bass) with new comers Akarsha "Aki" Kumar (harmonica and vocals) and Carlos Velasco (drums). The band mixes together blues styles from the Delta while adding Texas Blues, West Coast Blues and Country Blues into an authentic sound that is reminiscent to yester year.
My favorite songs on the album were “One of these mornings”, “Wait Baby”, “I got to go”. These songs will be going on my IPOD! I enjoyed the simplified Drum set. Carlos plays with a pair of wire brushes a snare, a hi hat and that’s about it! Nice bass keeping the bottom end tight and fantastic Hollow body Guitar and Harmonica played from the soul. I really think these guys are going to be busy next year come festival time. It will be nice seeing this band gain in popularity. Make sure to get out and see them when they come through your neck of the woods!
Tip of the Top performed on the blues stage of the 2009 San Jose Jazz Festival. Tip of the Top’s first CD, titled "Depot Street Blues", was recorded and released just in time for this San Jose Jazz festival appearance in August 2009. The band's authentic "live" sound is fully captured on this CD.
The band is coming out to the Valley and will be performing at Lozano’s in Stockton California this Saturday!
Come on out it should be a great show!
Thanks for Listening!

Introduction

Introduction
Greetings Friends and Blues Crusaders!Well here we are at the beginning of what I hope to be a long and meaningful relationship! With this blog I hope to review CDs from Blues Artists around the world both signed by a label and unsigned! I also hope to add some other interesting blog posts related to my musical experiences and day to day ramblings or at times rants!I don't claim to be some superior musical talent that seems to know all the historical pedigree of the Blues Fathers past to present. I only am offering my humble opinion about what I hear and what I like in relation to the CDs in review. I promise not to rip into any one's CD or musical talents and post bad press, rather I will only post on the CDs I like! I also hope to aid in the press and exposure to these talented individuals that seek out my musical opinion. So I should mention what I like musically. Above all I appreciate real gut filled, from the heart and soul musical performances. I want to hear passion! I cant stand Big headed people that think they're the best I've ever heard. I love all music! World to opera, Rap, Classical, etc. But what do I listen to? I love Gospel, all Blues styles, Soul, Rock 70's, 80's and 90's, and modern Jazz to fusion. And on a rainy day all of the above and maybe some Brazilian Jazz, Afro Cuban and Latin Jazz. Yes I have many interests both musically and artistically. But you can find me listening to http://www.theworldofblues.com/, Bluesville on satellite radio, or to my site Port City Blues for LiveBluesTonight.com Click here to listen to Port City Blues. Listening to The World of Blues as we speak...ah I meant as I write.

Blues Bands Artists I like: B.B. King, Elvin Bishiop, Watermellon Slim, Tommy Castro, Etta James, Pinetop Perkins, Muddy Waters, Chris Harper, John Nemeth, Robert Cray, Room Full of Blues, CoCo Montoya, Luther Allison, The Holms Brothers, Blind Boys of Alabama, Lonnie Mack, Guitar Mac, Guitar Shorty, Roy Rogers, Susan Tedeschi, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Boz Scaggs, Sue Foley to name a few! Oh gosh I can't beleve I forgot Albert King, KoKo Taylor, John Lee Hooker... man there are just toooo many to list!

Next issue we will review two CDs:

Tip of the Top Blues Band
Ron Hacker

Well thanks for listening!
